Thursday 5 September 2019 – Lakka

I didn’t blog yesterday because there was little to say.  Eventually the workmen came but they didn’t take matters any further. They insist they have installed the water heater correctly.  All they did was put the thermostat up. The idea is for us to just see how it goes. So we put the electric water heater on to see what will happen and we went to the swimming pool.  When we got back the water was very hot, but unfortunately is was running from the cold side of the tap as well as the hot.  So it is the same problem. The workmen we have cannot help further.  We will need to find a plumber, something that is apparently not so easy around here. Anyway, we will go away tomorrow and see how we get on.  We might get used to cold showers!

Had dinner our at Zorba’s, the cheap taverna in the town which serves massive portions. Early to bed for an early start today.

The weather report is not too good.  There may be rain on Friday.  So we have decided to get to Lakka on Paxos where as it will be the weekend and change over time for the charters we might be able to get a place on the town wall tomorrow. It was a 30ish mile trip, so we only arrived at 3pm even after a fairly early start. We turned the hot water heater off last night.  When we got here the water seemed to be hot, so maybe the heater works from the engine.  Richard is not convinced and later this evening the water temperature was just comfortably warm.  Anyway I had a shower and this may be the last.

The anchorage and town is solid with boats.  We are anchored well inshore, but it has been rather rocky this evening, and I don’t like that.  We didn’t row over to the town.  I was too lazy.  Just had a swim, read our newspaper and had dinner aboard.  Given the number of boats here I doubt there will be space on the wall.

Friday 24 May 2019 – Gouvia

Well all the work is done, but we still have to sort the boat out to go.  With all the workmen around over the last two days this really hasn’t been possible.  Richard has had a real go at the junk thrown into the forward cabin.  I got enthusiastic and decided to wash the two large fenders we keep at the stern. They really were horrid.  I scrubbed and scrubbed but they are still fairly disreputable, but greatly improved.  We did a bit more shopping just in the marina supermarket.  We had a word with the marina about renewing our contract.  It runs out in July.  If we are moving I don’t want to take long on the boat and try to get to Sicily for the winter.  I can’t just leave the new place in a state and go away.  It will drive me mad.  So we agreed that if we move we stay here for the winter.  If we don’t move we will go on to Italy in September.  The marina have said there is no loss on fees if we wait to renew until we get back here in late June. Saturday 25 May 2019 – Petriti, Corfu

Up early to see if we can get away.     We returned the car and did some last minute shopping for lunch.     We got the marina out to look at our unsuitable berth.     It is tight at the best of times, but the forward line is at an angle pulling us to starboard hard up against the next door boat.     We have complained before to no avail.     This time they seem to have got the message.     The boat on our port side has moved so we took his forward line which moves us across.     They say they are sending a diver down on Monday to sort the lines out.    We shall see when we return. Subject to that we make ready to leave and slip mooring at 10:15; not bad.  We are headed to a small port where there is an anchorage on the south end of the island.  It is only 17 miles away.   So we have a gentle start to our voyage.  Richard takes the new sail cover off, but as it turns out there is no chance to sail.  The wind starts at just a force 4, but it is on the nose and then reduces to only

Saturday 8 June 2019 – Galaxidhi

We woke up early and the wind was very light and the sun was shining.     I was pleased to see that the boat moored in front of us had gone making it easier for us to leave the mooring.     By the time we finished breakfast just after 8am I was a bit shocked to see that all the boats had gone!     We left at 8:30 which I reckon is early yet we were the slow coaches today.  We didn’t put up any sails which was just as well as there was virtually no wind.  So it was a three hour motor to Galaxidi.  This is a harbour on the mainland from which you can get to Delphi. One of its attractions is a town wall with water and electricity.  We were warned however that it gets very crowded and you cannot always find a place on the town wall.  So we were just taking the chance that we would arrive early enough to find somewhere.
