Friday 24 May 2019 – Gouvia

Well all the work is done, but we still have to sort the boat out to go.  With all the workmen around over the last two days this really hasn’t been possible.  Richard has had a real go at the junk thrown into the forward cabin.  I got enthusiastic and decided to wash the two large fenders we keep at the stern. They really were horrid.  I scrubbed and scrubbed but they are still fairly disreputable, but greatly improved.

We did a bit more shopping just in the marina supermarket.  We had a word with the marina about renewing our contract.  It runs out in July.  If we are moving I don’t want to take long on the boat and try to get to Sicily for the winter.  I can’t just leave the new place in a state and go away.  It will drive me mad.  So we agreed that if we move we stay here for the winter.  If we don’t move we will go on to Italy in September.  The marina have said there is no loss on fees if we wait to renew until we get back here in late June.

The last piece in the puzzle fell into place.  The life raft has been returned.  That leaves us with a problem.  Our life jackets have not been serviced because we are told they are too old.  We may have to buy new ones tomorrow.

We still have tasks for tomorrow before we leave.  There is the return of our rental car; changing the stern lines to ones we can slip off; and buying life jackets.   So we shall see if we get away.  The weather looks good at least for the weekend.

  1. Glad you have arrived safely and that everything is now falling into place. Make the most of it now and once you are organised with safety equipment I am sure you will start to enjoy yourselves once again. Happy sailing. It was lovely to see you both last week and now relax! J&J x
