Saturday 31 August – Petriti

Got up fairly early (8:30 but still feels like 2 hours earlier) and went straight to the big supermarket.  We filled a trolley to the brim and got a taxi back to the marina.  The charge for the taxi seems to have gone up from 10 Euro to 15.  But we had a huge load that we couldn’t have bought so cheaply in the marina.

We hadn’t had any breakfast because we had no food but despite buying breakfast stuff we decided to eat out and have a brunch.  Back to the boat where it is stinking hot again.  I unpack the food that I hadn’t put in the fridge and that just about did me in. Richard washed down the outside of the boat and then pumped up the dinghy for the first time this year!  And we were off at 1:30pm.  I think this is a record time to leave the marina after arrival. We have left just over 36 hours from arrival.

No wind is forecast and Richard hasn’t even bothered to take the cover off the mainsail.  We are just going to motor to an anchorage at the southern end of Corfu.  We have been here before, but I honestly don’t remember it.  Being on the water, even under motor not sail, is a bit cooler and that is helped by a bit of wind coming up.  It was mostly on the nose, but for about half an hour it got up to a 4 and went around to the beam, so Richard put the Genoa out and we motor sailed gaining about 1.5 knots of speed.  The boat is definitely slower that it was at the beginning of the season due to fouling of the hull.  That has also caused the log not to register, which is a bit of a pain.

We got here in good time and pretty much went straight in the sea to cool off.  We forgot to fill up the camp shower before we left, so Richard decided to fill it with our precious water on board.  It was then that we discovered that the taps were only sending out very hot water and no cold.  Something weird is going on with the new water heater.  At first we thought that the heater must have heated up the cold water tank, but feeling it that did not seem to be the case.  After 4 hours the cold water came back.  We can’t work it out.  It may mean we have to return to Gouvia for the engineers to sort it out. But as it is the weekend there is no rush to go back.

Had dinner on board. It was hot to cook, but did simple dinner so not too much cooking involved.  Not sure what we will do tomorrow.  May stay here, but not sure.
