Wednesday 5 June 2019 – Patras

The electricity ran out just before bedtime.  Richard didn’t want to walk the plank in the dark, so we left it.  We will take the marina man’s advice and get the agents to help us out as we have paid for that.  So in the morning we phoned the agents and they agreed to come over and sort the electricity out.  The guy who helped us last night arrived at about 9:30 and put more money into the box which did the trick.  Then he offered to take us to the local large AB supermarket.  He is a taxi driver.  He took us there, waited for us to do the shopping and then brought us back. He charged 15 euros for the taxi but it was worth it and now we have 3-4 days food.  We managed to get the shopping on board and later in the afternoon we went into town to try to find somewhere to have lunch.  We did not get on well at all.  We could only find one restaurant which had no English menu although the waitress was giving us an oral list of what she had.  In the end, after walking around for an hour we wound up in the café more or less next to where the boat is.  It wasn’t great, but sufficient and means I don’t have to cook tonight.

We then went back to the boat.  By now it is actually hot for the first time this trip. We sat in the cockpit and relaxed until the laundry was returned.  `I was a bit shocked to find that the charge was 45 euros (about twice what I usually pay), but when I unpacked it, it appears they actually ironed everything!   Anyway, that probably does for all the laundry I will need to do until we get back to Gouvia.

So all domestic chores done. Oh yes other two bits of luck. First is that the guy from the agents connected us to the water supply.   The lucky part is that our connector was too small for the tap and he had a suitable one.  So if he hadn’t been there we may not have been able to get water at all!  The second bit of luck is the plank.  Much as we hate it, it is essential because we would not have been able to get off the boat.  The lucky part is that we are told it has never been there before!

We have now had a quiet evening on the boat.  I am much relieved that I don’t have to walk ashore any more.  Richard will have to go ashore tomorrow to return the electricity adaptor.   Then we can breathe a sigh of relief.
