Monday 3 June 2019 – Messolonghi

The wind finally died down in the night and we had calm seas with no more slapping water banging away. So we had a good nights sleep.  We had a quiet morning.  Eventually we gave up and went to the café to use their loos and get internet.

The weather is dodgy looking and we expect it might rain.  The plan was to go in to town and find some shopping and get some lunch.  We took our rain coats with us, in case.   The walk into town wasn’t nearly as long as we feared. We managed to find a bakery but no where else to buy food and we are running out!  Also we might have got it wrong.   A lot of shops are open and many cafes, but very few restaurants.  I guess they are closed today after being open yesterday.  We finally found an open place and had a pleasant lunch.

Back to the boat and the wind has picked up a bit and it did rain (for about 5 minutes).   Then problems started.  We got a series of emails from our solicitor about our sale and purchase.  They had attachments that couldn’t be opened on the iPads, and we found that the computer had completely run out of charge.  Similarily, the toothbrush is also out of charge.  We have been out without mains electricity for nearly a week. It is surprising that the things worked for so long.  The problem is that the computer, toothbrush etc won’t charge on a 12V socket.  We have had an inverter but it died last year. We were given a new one but find it doesn’t work.  It’s connectors work with a new socket installed in cars years ago but not in our boat!

The next big problem is where to go tomorrow.  The plan was to go to Patras where there is a marina and where we could get mains electricity and reprovision the boat.  Only at 9:30 this evening Richard looked up the marina on the Cruising Association website only to find that it is closed!  It was damaged in storms in the winter of 2017 and still hasn’t re-opened.  So we have no idea what to do.  No food, no electricity and nowhere to go!  This should be interesting. I can see us going back to Gouvia, though R says no.

Saturday 8 June 2019 – Galaxidhi

We woke up early and the wind was very light and the sun was shining.     I was pleased to see that the boat moored in front of us had gone making it easier for us to leave the mooring.     By the time we finished breakfast just after 8am I was a bit shocked to see that all the boats had gone!     We left at 8:30 which I reckon is early yet we were the slow coaches today.  We didn’t put up any sails which was just as well as there was virtually no wind.  So it was a three hour motor to Galaxidi.  This is a harbour on the mainland from which you can get to Delphi. One of its attractions is a town wall with water and electricity.  We were warned however that it gets very crowded and you cannot always find a place on the town wall.  So we were just taking the chance that we would arrive early enough to find somewhere. Friday 14 June 2019 – Vathi (Ithaca)

Up fairly early.     Both slept very well, unusual.     Had a quiet breakfast and decided not to have an early morning swim.     We are headed to Ithaca, not very far away.     About a 20 mile trip.     Richard says that the log shows we came here before.     With great optimism Richard put the mainsail up while we were on anchor.   So just before 9am we set off.     We were over optimistic about the sails.   There is absolutely no wind whatsoever.   So another motor trip in absolutely calm seas. It was so bad that at sea Richard took the mainsail down.  We got to Vathi at about 1pm.  We had no idea where to go.  We found a wall with a lot of boats on it so guessed that is where we should go.  We found a spot and put our anchor out.  A nice British couple on one side helped with the lines.   I was worried about the anchor holding. ...

Friday 30 August 2019 – Gouvia

Well, now back on the boat.  We flew in last night.  The flight was delayed by an hour because of flight control problems at Gatwick.  So we didn’t get to the boat until midnight local time.  We just made up the bed and fell into it.  We had a meal at the airport so food didn’t seem important. We got up at 9am (which with the time difference felt like 7am) to do our chores and be ready for the man who did our wood work (more later) to come.  We have no food on board so we took the washing left over from July to the laundry and then had breakfast in one of the cafés.  The problem is that it is terribly hot.  The forecast is for 34C and it almost feels like that already. Back at the boat I manage to unpack, but then just fell asleep on the bed under the fan for over half an hour.
